The colorful history at Thornton Distilling Co. can be traced back to 1857 when the brick and limestone brewery and grain tower was built by the John S. Bielfeldt Brewing Company on the west bank of Thorn Creek in the small village of Thornton, Illinois. The brand ‘Dead Drop’ refers to prohibition-era bootlegging terminology where barrels of whiskey were left at secret locations for later pickup, honoring the craftsmanship and methodologies of a bygone era. The distillery uses limestone-filtered artesian well water from a historic 1830s well to craft all of their spirits.

All-natural, unsweetened dark rum made from molasses and cane sugar, fermented with a proprietary yeast blend, distilled in copper stills, and matured in new low-char American oak barrels for over two years, getting its color naturally from the barrel only.
Dead Drop Gin
A uniquely crafted gin featuring 12 botanicals from around the world including Italian juniper berries, Moroccan orris root, and Egyptian hibiscus, with fresh ruby red grapefruit peels added by hand before distillation for a distinctive citrus character.
Dead Drop Louchifer Absinthe Blanche
Distilled with a proprietary blend of seven herbs and spices built around the classic absinthe ‘unholy trinity’ of wormwood, fennel, and anise, with supporting layers from angelica root and green cardamom pods.
Dead Drop Old Fashioned
Hand-crafted in collaboration with Eden Laurin of The Violet Hour, this pre-mixed cocktail combines traditional straight bourbon whiskey, rich demerara sugar, aromatic bitters, and carefully selected herbs and spices including Madagascar and Tahitian vanilla beans.
Dead Drop Silver Rum
Made from premium brown sugar and distilled in small batches on unique copper stills using limestone-filtered artesian well water, then rested in stainless steel tanks where it delicately develops flavor and becomes more full-bodied.
