About

Founded by Irish native Oliver “Ollie” Mulligan, Great Wagon Road Distilling Co. is the oldest distillery in Charlotte, North Carolina and the first to have its own speakeasy attached. The distillery uses exceptionally pure artisanal spring water from the Blue Ridge Mountains and produces spirits from their two locations in Charlotte’s NoDa neighborhood and Waxhaw, NC.

Spirits

704 Gin

A local Charlotte gin (704 is the Charlotte area code) that rounds out the distillery’s spirit lineup with botanicals sourced from the surrounding North Carolina region.

Drumlish Poteen Carolina Whiskey

A barley and corn whiskey at 50% ABV with burnt honey, peach, apricot, lemon zest, and sweet floral on the nose; peach, citrus, orange peel, corn, vegetal grain, coffee, nutty spice, wood, and earthy complex silky on the palate; and peach, bay leaves, pine, earthy, smooth, mellow finish.

Quinn's Barrel Aged Whiskey

Named after Mary Quinn, Ollie’s grandmother and a true trailblazer, this bold and lively brand honors the Great Wagon Road tradition of embracing the unknown and seeking adventure. It is a small-batch whiskey distilled from a blend of 100% Organic and non-GMO barley and corn, aged 53-gallon New American Oak barrels from Kelvin Cooperage in Louisville, KY, with mildly spicy buttery leather and heather flowers on the nose and warm oak and cherry on the finish.

Rua

RĂșa is Gaelic for “Red Head”, an apt name for this richly hued American Single Malt Whiskey hand-crafted from only three ingredients: 100% Organic and Non-GMO Two-Row Pilsner Barley, exceptionally pure spring water from the North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains, and yeast. Getting its color from aging in Char No.3 American White Oak barrels, it carries the expected notes of vanilla and caramel, complemented by a very full body with notes of fresh baked bread and praline and a long sweet finish.

Rua Gold

Made using American Distillers malt (6 row barley) and aged for 33 months in Speyside cooperage barrels, this special edition Single Malt has a wonderful spice note with marzipan and dark cherry on the nose, beautifully balanced rye and spice on the palate with a lingering satisfying sweetness on the end.

Salamander Vodka

Named after the legend passed down in the Blue Ridge Mountains that a Salamander was a sign of purity, Salamander is a corn-based high quality gluten-free vodka made from exceptionally pure spring water from the Blue Ridge Mountains. Gravity filtered through 36 inches of activated charcoal and 7x distilled for exceptional purity with lemon and spicy citrus on the nose, grapefruit peel on the palate, and orange blossom on the finish, with $1 from each bottle sold directly reinvested into regional charities.
